"Returning to the famous chapati house after a decade."

Studying Dave Portnoy enough you can almost always tell his pizza score before he reveals it. The same can be said by the severity of Mark Wien's "oooh" after his first bite. It's an "ooh" followed by an uncertain face when he thinks the food is good but not amazing, and those rare times he tries a world class meal the "ooh" continues into repeated gasps and laughs. 

Based on his reactions to Azmi I kinda guessed he enjoyed it but it wasn't life changing. Ironically enough, I visited this shop a decade before I even knew who Mark was, so it was a surprise to watch a video years later of him eating at this very spot. After a decade long vanishment from Singapore I returned, and decided to refresh my memory with Azmi. From what I recalled, I enjoyed the chapati and curry but personally prefer the thinner type. 

Everything looked identical to what I remembered walking in. Even the same owner was there manning the cashier. I smiled and chose a table and ordered Kheema, Chicken curry and 3 chapati's. 

Everything arrived fresh and piping hot and I dug in after my long flight from Mumbai and hotel check-in. The kheema was as good as I remembered, the lamb/mutton variety with it's more pungeant flavour. My chicken curry had a good overall flavour but wasn't memorable.

Chapati's being the main selling point of Azmi, I have to admit I still had the same opinion. Whilst hearty and tasty, they are just too thick for the kind I prefer to eat, and I find myself tiring of the consistency after the first one.

Apart from all of that, if you are in Singapore for a few days I know your food itinerary will be lengthy and diverse, but stop by here for many just one chapati and some kheema to help support this historic shop after a couple of years of intense hardships.
