"Khao Soi When" The receptionist at my guesthouse asked me every single morning for 3 weeks "Did you try Mueang Klaeng yet?". I got tired of saying no, so I walked the two blocks to this old skool shop and ordered a chicken bowl. Within three minutes a piping hot bowl was placed before me and the aroma's kissed my nostrils. I dug deep with spoon and chopsticks, tackling stray noodles and tender chicken legs. Heads of mustard greens added acidity, shallots bite, lime a tang, and overall the bowl ate well. If i was to offer a tiny seed of doubt, the actual soup was on the sweet side, something endemic to Thai tastebuds these days. However, it still tasted good and I could see why the lady was so insistent to send me there. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
