"Local Tastes" Sometimes your pursuit of local tastes hits a roadblock. Today mine came in the form of Lung Thai Khao Gaeng. A spot raved about by Mark Wiens, I headed here around lunchtime and managed to carve out a plate of different curries to try spurred on by the promise of the "Spiciest Curries In Chiang Mai". What ended up felling me like a large redwood, was consistency and texture above all else. My curries were tasty, and spicy, but the cuts of meat were cartilege-heavy, gristle entwined, fat-surrendered and rather floppy. I almost threw up in my mouth on an unfortunate piece. I hid it in napkins. I ate what I thought was polite enough to not show total disrespect, and paid my bill trying to hide the table with my strategic body positioning. I then walked next door to Maled to enjoy one of the best coffee's in Chiang Mai, to not only wake life into my soul, but to try and erase the memory of those fatty flabby lumps. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
