Rating: 7 / 10 Naturally I discovered right after checking into my hotel that there was a ramen place in Ipoh, two infact. I resisted the temptation to go there on night one, and opted for some legendary Curry Mee which hit the spot. Day two, I succumbed... Tearing off the frustrations of sleeping on a terribly hard bed, and being constantly woken by the street noise, I massacred a couple of coffee's at the Burp & Giggles cafe before walking the hundred meters to Mad ramen. My mind was ablaze with curiosity as to how a small town in Malaysia would tackle such a venerated Japanese staple. The restaurant itself was rather hip and cool looking, packed with locals, and laced with the scent of haram meats. The black garlic ramen was tasty. The pork and egg were cooked nicely, the noodles too had decent texture and the broth was above average on the never-ending ramen scale. Prices were a tad on the steep side, but the ingredients were good quality. If in Ipoh, i'd definitely pay them a return visit to see if they changed/improved on anything or try a different ramen bowl. It makes my heart smile when people do this sort of stuff in smaller towns. Kudos! These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
