"Once again the most popular place in town isn't the best" So you've been serving Tandoori Chicken and Naan for X amount of years? The whole town knows your restaurant? Ok, well why haven't you managed to perfect the recipe by now? My visit to Pak Putra was a disappointment. I arrived early since everyone says the Tandoori Chicken is sold out by 7pm, found a table inside away from the fumbling tourists, ordered a dal, tandoori chicken plate and garlic nan and sipped on my coke as I waited. And waited. As I have grown accustomed to being annoyed at, my tandoori chicken arrived, without dal or naan. The dal arrived ten minutes later, and my hot naan another ten minutes later which meant my chicken was now cold and so was the dal. It didn't really matter anyway because the nan was one of those fat, underdone, thick types which I personally don't like. My dal was incredibly sweet and the star of the dish, the chicken, was passable Tandoori Chicken at best. It had the strange mealy texture and the flavours did not penetrate in, leaving me to suspect they don't marinate it for long. It was riddled with food colouring too to perhaps make up for the shorter marination times. Another adventure into the abyss that I can tick off my list and never repeat. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
