"The Dank-o-meter Is High On This One" A veritable institution in the culinary roadmap of Bangkok. Polo Chicken is a place no self-respecting human should omit from their grazing journey. Why the hell would you choose some poxy Phad Thai place on Khao San Road over a family run restaurant that has been perfecting whole roasted chickens, scattered with deep fried garlic that's seasoned with a house-secret blend, crunchy somtum, and most importantly the two dipping sauces they serve the chicken with. Depending on which end of the chook you start, it can be a tad dry if you visited for dinner. I always go at lunchtime when the birds are freshest and fullest of succulent bliss. The dark meat parts are the most flavoursome, but if your keen eyed friend snaps them up first, rest assured any morsel you get stuck with will be delicious. Both of the dipping sauces are excellent, tho I prefer the darker more funky one. You have to mention at least three times that you want the Somtum spicy or they'll just assume you are a weak stomached foreigner and slip you one with a measly half chilli in it. It would be tantamount to treason to come to Thailand and not eat here at least once. Stuff your face, go home in regret, sleep it off and return. That's what all true hedonists do. You can too. Go ahead. Save it in your google maps now. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
