"Rainy Day Soup" Old tea shops are fading fast in KL. The world is turning to shitty malls with stores you can find in any other country. Nothing original remains. It's a slow death played out in plain view. However, if you keep an eye open, you can still find some small gems hidden inbetween the H&M and 7-11's. Sup Al-Deen is such a place. There is nothing fancy about Al Deen. You walk in, find a chair, order Mutton soup and two slices of white bread and sit looking out the window as locals read the newspaper (no instagram influencers here), and mutter to themselves. The soup comes served piping hot and fatty, addictive in it's sippability, bread soaking up flavours and dispersing them between roaming teeth.
A moment of relief from the torpor of humanity. Time to reasses our options, decisions, positions. Time to revell in the simple glory of well prepared comfort food. Until it too turns to dust under the foundations for a new condo.
