"Quite different to a plastic stool on a street corner in HCMC" I'm always wary of Pho places that veer towards the "Instagram" formula with flashy interiors and taggable walls. More often than not the food is mediocre and a mere distraction from the streaming content around. However, after having had a decidedly underwhelming bowl of Pho from a tiny stall seated on a plastic stool in Brickfields, I investigated the chance that my mind could be changed. I arrived just after the lunch rush and the tables were being cleared of cattle desecration. I ordered my beef pho and longed for Saigon. To cut to the chase, this was a decent bowl of Pho but it had its issues. First of all the noodles were not overcooked like Pho 99, the beef was slightly more tender (although some pieces were rubber), however, the broth here was a step up. It had body and flavour and gave you that sippable vibe. If I was to offer one criticism about it, it was quite salty. So much in fact that it became noticeable on the first sip. I'd take salty and flavourful any day over underseasoned and bland, so Super Saigon has managed to slip above Pho 99 in the hunt for the best bowl in KL. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
