Rating: 5 / 10 My Airbnb host told me I had to try the Milan-version of pizza called Pinsa. After having spent 10 days in Napoli the last thing I wanted was a pizza, however, when in Rome... Luckily for me one of the highest rated spots was a 5 minute walk and I hadn't eaten breakfast. I trod over to fuel my legs for the long walk to the Duomo and Ossuary for some serious skull action.... As per Covid protocols I decided to takeaway and sit on a park bench somewhere alone. The food came within a couple of minutes and I barely had time to pay before I was being summoned by the chef to collect my steaming hot box. According to my Airbnb host, the pinsa is a thinner version of Neopolitan style, a lighter version. It turned out he was right, but the fanfare he bestowed on it was misplaced. In reality it was a poor cousin of Naples pizza. Thin, yes, crispy, yes, flavoursome? No. The tomato sauce which swam up the sides was bland and lacking any tang. The cheese was your general assembly of mute bubblings. The dough was dramatically lacking in salt. All in all I took a few bites for posterity and discarded the rest in a trashcan before heading South West through tree-lined streets, occasional parks, extremely rich snobs and the wind forever kicking up my hair reminding me who's boss. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
